I feel odd writing so many reviews recently of toys I loved. I don’t actually enjoy every toy I try out, nor do I lie about what I enjoyed. I do have some affiliate links on this blog, but I don’t make any money from them, and I don’t expect to any time soon. Sometimes I just try a toy so good I need to share it with the world, and that’s the case with the Bat Bites Toys Obsidian’s Maw grinder, designed by Frost of 3DFrost. (Frost also designed the Uncover Creations Werewolf II knotted dildo, which I reviewed over here.)
Obsidian’s Maw is, as the name suggests, a mouth-shaped grinder. It’s the tongue and some of the teeth of a fire dragon character designed by Alex of Bat Bites Toys. The tip of the tongue is split, the back of it has a few ridges, and the whole thing is covered in small bumps. Including the teeth, there are a lot of different textures to explore, and explore them I did.
I bought the grinder for $35 in size small and 00-20 firmness, which is the softest firmness Bat Bites offers. The firmness is perfect for me, but that’s entirely up to personal preference. Fortunately, I can see no reason why Obsidian’s Maw wouldn’t work in a different firmness. Some of the uses I discuss later on would likely work even better in firmer silicone. The color I got the grinder in is called Golden Grackle, inspired by the iridescent feathers of grackles. As I mentioned in my Fantasy Grove Amanita review, I’m a sucker for a good name and a good nature-inspired sex toy.
I prefer grinding against the back end of the tongue, which features a few gentle rounded ridges that feel great. My dick1 “pops” between the front and back of each ridge as I move backwards and forwards, which is a delightful sensation. The smaller bumps across the toy are, as would be expected, less noticeable. They do add something, though, and it’s nice that I can feel them even when just applying pressure to my dick without moving.
The teeth of the grinder are mostly an aesthetic touch. In 00-20 they’re too soft to poke at me, and they’re far enough from the main grinding surface to avoid bumping into them by mistake. When I want a bit of poking at my dick, though, they’re nice as an additional tease. I usually do that by turning the grinder sideways so that my dick runs over the line of teeth as I move back and forth.
I’ve also tried shoving the Obsidian’s Maw down my pants as I go about my day. Even in the small size, it’s far too obtrusive and the shape is too unwieldy for me to use as a packer. It’s fun to have down my pants while doing household tasks, though. It’s a nice little reminder that my dick exists and could use some attention, keeping me ready to jerk off as soon as I finish the dishes. When sticking it down my pants, I don’t use lube because I don’t want any on my clothes. I was surprised to find that the lack of lube isn’t a problem. Although the 00-20 silicone is tacky, the lack of movement when it’s just shoved down my pants minimizes any tugging at my pubic hair. This is helped by the fact that I tend to sit or stand still while doing household chores, rather than walking around. I’m glad I didn’t get the larger size of Obsidian’s Maw. The small works well when shoved down my pants as I go about my household tasks, and I doubt the large would fit as neatly.
The two sides of the forked tongue fit beautifully around my dick in the small size as well. I can grind so that my dick fits between the two forks and pressure is generated largely on the sides of my cock. That lets me get off more easily when the tip of my cock gets overly sensitive, as can happen during long masturbation sessions. But it’s easy for me to slip out of position when using the Obsidian’s Maw that way. Instead, my preferred way to use the forks is to lie down on my back and use the grinder in my hand to stroke at the sides of my dick. This does less for me physically, but one sex partner has reported that the visual of me jerking my dick with the tongue is hot. I can imagine that this technique might work better in slightly firmer silicone than 00-20.
I didn’t have any fantasies about monster maws before using this grinder. I was hoping that, like the Uncover Creations Werewolf II dildo did, the Obsidian’s Maw grinder would inspire some new ones. That didn’t happen, but I at least don’t find the idea of a monster mouth an active turn-off. It just doesn’t do anything additional for me.
One concern I have about the 00-20 firmness is potential damage to the edges of the toy over time, as I’ve noticed happening to some 00-20 squishies in the past. Granted, squishies are squished a lot more than grinders are, but I’m still concerned enough to be delicate with the toy.
It’s hard not to be partial to grinders given that, as I’ve mentioned before, I almost exclusively get off through grinding. Still, I recognize that not all grinders are created equal. My Uncover Creations Lunar Grinder, for instance, feels completely different from my Obsidian’s Maw. I’m excited to continue expanding my grinder collection so I can explore different grinder styles even further.
