Fantasy Grove Amanita dildo review

The Fantasy Grove Amanita1 dildo has dethroned the Njoy Pure Plug as my favorite insertable toy for anal play. That’s high praise, considering how much I still love my Pure Plug, but the Amanita deserves it.

The toy itself/stats:

I bought the Fantasy Grove Amanita in size small (1.8-inch max diameter, 4.6-inch usable length) and soft (00-30) firmness. The toy is shaped like a large mushroom. It features a pronounced head with a slimmer textured shaft below it. Smaller mushrooms form texture along the shaft. The toy was designed by Venus of Wormhole Emporium. Its design won the 2024 Bazowie! Award for Best Fantasy Toy.

Aesthetically, I’m a huge fan of this toy. It’s completely unlike a dick, human or fantasy. That’s nice when I’m having bad gender dysphoria about my genitals and realistic dicks hurt to look it. The base, in addition to being large enough for anal safety, looks like bracket fungi. I always appreciate more kinds of fungi, and sex toys are no exception. I’m also a sucker for a good name, so I like that this one is called Amanita. Some species of amanita mushrooms are edible, but others are incredibly toxic. Maybe I’m just a nerd, but I think ambiguously deadly fungi are a fun dildo namesake.

One thing I dislike about the Amanita’s aesthetics is the weird little divot in the head where the meatus would be on an actual penis. It’s oddly phallic for a toy that’s otherwise non-anatomical. And, despite its name, the Amanita doesn’t look much like an amanita species. I can forgive divots and mycological inaccuracies, though, when a toy feels this good.

In use (anally):

I only tried this toy anally, because I only ever use insertable toys anally.

I have the Fantasy Grove Amanita in soft (00-30) firmness, which makes it the softest insertable toy I’ve owned so far. That makes insertion difficult. I’ll sometimes sit there for multiple minutes trying to shove the toy inside with lube-covered hands. Which doesn’t sound like much, but it’s hard to wait that long when you’re horny and just want it inside you. The softness is nice once it’s inside, though. It makes the large head fit more easily than it would otherwise and keeps its size from being overwhelming.

Although insertion is difficult, it’s made easier by the tapered shape of the head. My enjoyment of this toy’s shape makes me think I might like a flared dildo, but then I would likely struggle with insertion of the largest part of the toy up front. The tapered cap of this one lets me have a similar feeling to a flare, I imagine, without the struggle to get it inserted.

Once in, the Amanita’s shape is amazing. The sharp ledge formed by the head’s underside feels amazing against my asshole. And that ledge’s steepness means I can tug it against the rim of my ass again and again without it slipping out.  That stands in contrast to my Uncover Creations Werewolf II and Werewolf III dildos, which slipped out far too easily. Pulling the cap against my entrance is by far my favorite way to use the Amanita.

It’s not just the head that I love, though. After a bit, when I’m starting to get tired of tugging the mushroom’s cap against my rim, I’ll move the Amanita deeper and enjoy the texture of the stalk instead. I was worried that the softness would keep me from noticing the texture, but that hasn’t been an issue. The texture is just enough to be fun while not being overwhelming. I’ll thrust the toy more quickly at this stage.

The base of the Amanita is also nice. The softness of the silicone makes the base more comfortable to press my ass against than the bases of other toys I have. I’m going to be focusing on toys in this softness in the future.

The Amanita is also the perfect size for me right now. The trend throughout my dildo reviews has been towards larger and larger toys as I chase a sensation of fullness. 1.5 inches diameter used to be a lot for me, but now it’s what I use to warm up. I can’t really praise the Amanita for being the right size for me. After all, both the toy and human orifices come in many sizes. What works for me may not work for you. And I’m actively working on sizing up. But the Amanita’s size is perfect right now. Even when I’m not in the mood for thrusting or pulling at my rim, it’s fun to leave the Amanita in place for a sensation of fullness while I grind my dick against something.

Some parts of the design are lost on me. The fine lines underneath the head are hard to feel unless I’m rotating the toy, and even then, they’re not pleasurable. The small bumps on the head of the toy also do nothing for me. And I’m not able to feel the shaft’s slight curve in use. (Although, given my history with curved dildos, a barely-there curve may be a good thing.) But I’m honestly having a hard time coming up with any true negatives.

I’m trying not to sound like a shill for Fantasy Grove over here, but I really do love the toy this much. I’d recommend it for people who, like me, get most of their enjoyment of insertable toys from stimulation right at their entrances with some bonus enjoyment from sensations of fullness. And hey, even if it doesn’t work for your body, you’ll have a cute mushroom sculpture.
