As a sex toy reviewer, I am sworn to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. It’s not a personal failing, but I’m vaguely ashamed to admit it anyway: the Tantus Curve1 dildo is too much for my ass. (Because of a combination of gender dysphoria and lack of physical pleasure, I only ever use insertable toys anally, despite having another hole.)
I didn’t want the Curve to be too much for me! I’ve tried it anally many times, each time thinking that this would be it. I like intense pressure on the sides of my rectum when I’m jerking off. That’s not something that my beloved Njoy Pure Plug can provide. I’ve been getting that pressure mostly from fingering, but it’s hard to get fingers at the right angle and deep enough into my ass. I’m only moderately flexible, and I don’t think shoulder pain from contorting myself is sexy.
I thought that the Curve would be the solution to the problem of wanting firmer pressure deeper into my ass. At 1.5 inches thick and 5.7 inches of insertable length, with an extreme curve partway up the shaft, I thought I might have found the solution. And it’s reasonably priced, at around 50 dollars. It’s made of the body-safe silicone that Tantus is known for, which is essential to me. I’m not willing to use porous toys, so body-safe materials like glass, silicone, and stainless steel are a must.
Firmness of dildos is one of the hardest things to judge if you don’t already own a few yourself. Just saying “it’s pretty firm” means nothing. Instead, I’ll say that this one can be bent in half so that the tip touches the base, but the surface has no give to it. The surface is matte and has some slight texture, which keeps it from gliding smoothly and means that it needs incredible quantities of lube. I needed to remove this toy to add more lube far more often than other toys. Unlike other toys, I couldn’t apply lube mostly to the head and rely on my anus to push the lube down the shaft as needed. I used either Slippery Stuff water-based gel or Boy Butter oil-based lube.
Personally, I think there’s something sexy about ending a masturbation session covered in lube. I like knowing that I got so worked up I didn’t care that I had lube in my hair. Needing large quantities of lube was only an issue because it meant I needed to pay for large quantities of lube. (It’s this dilemma that initially led me to the false promise of coconut oil as a lube, which will be discussed further in a future post.)
On to the problems! There’s a reason the previous section of this review was in the past tense. When I inserted the Curve all the way, it felt good at first. Sometimes it even felt great. But, when I inevitably had to remove the toy to reapply lube, I often noticed that there was blood on it. Sometimes I didn’t see blood on the dildo itself, but I notice blood when fingering myself afterwards. It concerned me enough that I went to a colorectal doctor to get checked out. Turns out I’m pretty much fine, but my ass can’t handle curved dildos. Determining this required bringing the Curve in to my doctor to show her what I had been inserting to have her confirm that yeah, my ass can’t manage that.
It’s not all terrible, though. The bumps along the shaft were an afterthought when I purchased the Curve, but they turned out to be the toy’s greatest asset. Thrusting them in and out and letting them tease my hole was delightful. That was my first foray into texture on a toy, and I was surprised that my ass enjoyed it so much. I also enjoyed the stretch of the Curve, which at the time was the largest dildo I’d ever used. I’ve since moved on to larger toys, but I still appreciate the Curve for being the first toy that made me feel stretched out.
I think of a lot of my masturbation as sexual exploration. I want to figure out what my body is capable of and what I and my body enjoy. In that respect, the Curve was undeniably a success. It taught me three separate lessons – that there’s only so much curve I can handle, that texture feels wonderful, and that the sensation of fullness from a larger dildo than I had used before is quite nice in its own right.
I still used the Curve for a while after discovering the bleeding issue. The thickness of it was nice for opening my ass up for fingering. The ripples felt amazing. But bleeding from a dildo isn’t something I can excuse because it feels nice, and after a while I got sick of worrying that I would insert the Curve too far and irritate my ass. I’ve moved on to other dildos that provide texture and fullness without making me bleed. I’ll have reviews of those up soon. Lately I’ve been enjoying my Fantasy Grove Amanita in size small. I can’t recommend the Curve, but I’m glad that I tried it out.
