The Romp Hype was the third vibrator I owned and my waterproof or rechargeable vibe. The Hype is by far my favorite vibrator. It’s the only vibrator I ever reach for when I want direct and pleasurable stimulation on my dick1.
That’s not to say that it can easily bring me to orgasm on its own. It is possible, but it’s only happened a few times. That’s not because of any problem with the vibrator, though. As I’ve discussed before, I struggle to orgasm from vibration alone. While I can achieve it semi-consistently with my Magic Wand Plus, I’m already numb enough by that point that the orgasm isn’t pleasant. That’s not true with the Romp Hype. Its subtler vibrations complement other forms of stimulation rather than overpowering them. Unlike the MWP, it’s actually fun to orgasm while having the Hype in place against my dick. I’d rank the Hype as far, far less rumbly than the MWP’s first level, but about the same level of rumbliness/buzziness as the MWP’s highest speed. Even though I find it less numbing than the MWP, I still rarely go above the Hype’s second vibration level unless I’m trying for a second orgasm. And even on its highest level, the Hype provides less raw power than the MWP on its lowest. Since my dick apparently doesn’t respond to raw power, that isn’t an issue for me.
Despite not getting as powerful as the MWP, the Hype doesn’t have any especially mild levels either. It starts out moderately strong and stays moderately strong throughout its six power levels, which ramp up so subtly that I have trouble telling the difference between them.
The Hype’s relatively small size, with a diameter of about 1.5 inches at its widest, lets it fit easily between my labia to grind my dick against. Grinding is the way I reach orgasm 99% of the time. Pairing well with grinding means that the Hype gets plenty of use. Fitting between my labia means that the firm parts of the Hype stay pressed against my dick, where I need the pressure, instead of hurting my pubic bone like the MWP does.
I’ve had the Hype for three months now. During that time, the matte finish of the silicone has turned slightly shinier with friction. The silicone has also developed some odd lumps and dips, as shown below, that weren’t there when I got it. I’ll be keeping an eye on those spots, but they haven’t caused any problems in use yet. The build quality feels cheap in some other areas as well. There’s a gap between the yellow plastic part at the base of the toy and the red silicone that makes up the rest of it. The gap needs to be carefully cleaned with a fingernail or toothpick every time I wash it. Not being on the business end of the toy means that it’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s a shame that a waterproof toy that should be easy to clean instead requires extra work.

One quality of life feature that I wish the Hype had is separate up and down buttons. As it is, you need to cycle through all six strengths and four patterns if you accidentally pass the one you wanted. Because I almost always stick to the first two speeds, I find it faster to turn the Hype all the way off and back on again, which resets it to the first speed. The fact that not having a down button is my biggest gripe, though, says something about how much I enjoy the toy overall.
The Hype holds its charge for a good long time – an hour and 35 minutes on its highest speed in my testing. I’ve never had it run out of charge on me. It’s also quiet. In my tests, it was inaudible through a closed door on its highest level. Granted, that test only helps you if you have the same door I do, but it should give some idea of what we’re talking about.
The Hype isn’t perfect. Maybe someday I’ll find a vibrator that surpasses it. Right now, though, I see no reason to go looking for a better one.
